They say that you did not see Christmas in Kerala, if you weren’t with one of Fort Kochi. The roads taken towards Fort Kochi are decorated with the Bons of the Buntings and are illuminated – buildings, street sides and ancient trees. For those who do not think about the crowds of Kochi, the tourists do not mind, Christmas is probably the best time to see.
From food to activities, games and sports, there are something that will enter each new visitors. Here is a quick guide of what you can do in Fort Kochi in this Christmas.

Anyone who came to Fort Kochi on December 5 will be familiar with this tradition of Papanji burning. An enormous idol (Papanji) of an old man burns at midnight on December 31. The Portuguese Tradition is believed to be the residue of the new year, it is still being followed in Fort Kochi and it is one of the largest crowded pullers. Over the years, the people of this region rewrite Santa Claus and created Papanji, it was modified to look like an old man. (Papanji means grandfather in Portuguese). Ian Tihasik, Artist and Writer Honey Thomas is designing Papanji this year. The height of Papanji has been summarized up to 50 feet due to protection. Fort Kochi’s people welcomed a 5 -foot -long papanji in 2021, which was learned.

Join Cochin Carnival
The celebrations here do not end with the burning of Papanji. As the New Year Dawn, everyone in the city’s largest tourist attraction is ready for the Cochin Carnival Parade. Fort Kochi is floating and bursting with color riots with tablex. Men, women and children are on the streets extensively for the procession, including Folk Art Performances, the Traditional Parks of Kerala, and for the art of conduct. People from afar only visit Fort Kochi to see the Carnival rally.
This year’s carnival that started on December 11, about 96 clubs participated. From sports events to games, music and dance, it has something for everyone. Carnival presents the soul of Kochi – its identity of the multi -culture. “The best thing about Carnvel is a participatory festival and not just the viewer,” said Sohan Kage, a former Mayor of Heritage Cochi and former Mayor of Fort Kochi.
